Postcard: Walking Through the Ruins

009 Walking Through the Ruins (My Son, Vietnam)

Mỹ Sơn, Quảng Nam Province, Vietnam (2nd January 2013)

During our stay in Hoi An, we decided to visit Mỹ Sơn, the ruins of the Champa Kingdom whose kings had ruled Vietnam between the 4th and 14th centuries AD. While we were expecting nothing more than a couple of old abandoned buildings in a compact complex, we were pleasantly surprised at what we saw. There were a number of partially ruined Hindu temples and buildings spread over a fairly huge area amidst lush green vegetation. With few or no tourists around at this time of the day, and a conspicuous lack of signboards or maps around the site, it was exciting to walk through the ruins and explore the area by ourselves!
