Mỹ Sơn, Quảng Nam Province, Vietnam (2^nd January 2013)

During our stay in Hoi An, we decided to visit Mỹ Sơn, the ruins of the Champa Kingdom whose kings had ruled Vietnam between the 4^th and 14^th centuries AD. While we were expecting nothing more than a couple of old abandoned buildings in a compact complex, we were pleasantly surprised at what we saw. There were a number of partially ruined Hindu temples and buildings spread over a fairly huge area amidst lush green vegetation. With few or no tourists around at this time of the day, and a conspicuous lack of signboards or maps around the site, it was exciting to walk through the ruins and explore the area by ourselves!
