Bergen, Norway

John Lennon might not have referenced ‘Norwegian Wood’ in a flattering way in the famous Beatles song, but you cannot help but admire the pretty little wooden houses that are seen in the Norwegian towns and countryside. In Bergen, there are many neighborhoods with traditional wooden houses and I actually got a chance to stay in one such cozy house which the owner claimed to have been built in the 18th century! Wooden commercial buildings also abound, with Bryggen being the highlight – a row of colorful buildings greeting visitors coming into town through the fjord. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, this is one of the most photographed spots in Bergen.
